Program Overview

The Activity Assistant Certificate is designed for individuals who have the desire to implement and evaluate activity programs in a care facility. This program allows students to receive training as Activity Assistants in Long Term Facilities/ Assisted Living Facilities and a variety of other facilities. This program introduces students to activity as a part of life and how activity can influence various factors affecting health and life of the residents.

Activity Assistant Certificate is 220 hours program for current registered HCA/RCA with high employment rate, Lear on flexible course schedule.

Job Opportunities

The students from this program will be able to work as Activity Assistants in

  • Long Term Facilities
  • Rehabilitation Centers
  • Assisted Living Facilities

The graduates will be able to work with other team members, families and volunteers to promote well-being of the clients/residents.

Wages

Earn up to $24.54* per hour as an Activity Assistants
All wages taken from the Canada Job Bank

Program Admission Requirements

Current HCA registration/Proof of completion of HCA or RCA program from an approved post-secondary institution/Proof of completion of Community Support Worker Program and Proof of English Language Proficiency.

For English Language Domestic Students need to have Grade 10 English or Successful Completion of English Language Proficiency Assessment Test conducted by College Authorities.

International Students will need to submit a proof of English Language Competency by any one of the following options:

  • IELTS 5.5 Bands or More
  • CLB Score of 6 or more
  • PTE Academic 50 or more
  • Any other English language assessment test with equivalent
  • Successful Completion of English Language Proficiency Assessment Test conducted by College Authorities
  • Successful Completion of 24 week ESL Program at Western Community College

Note: Following are to be completed before the practice education experience

  • Completed Immunization form
  • Clear criminal record check
  • Valid First Aid/CPR Certification
  • Valid Foodsafe Level 1
  • WHMIS
  • CTA Title
