Program Overview

The hospitality industry has been a booming industry for the last few years. With the advent of globalization and increased tourism, the industry has grown tremendously and has opened up a number of job opportunities. This program is designed to prepare students for various job opportunities in the hospitality industry. The students will gain knowledge about the functioning of various areas of hospitality, including catering, restaurant management, housekeeping, and Food and Beverage Management.

Program Admission Requirements

Grade 12 or Mature Student Status (19 years of age or more) and proof of English Language Proficiency. Students will need to submit a proof of English Language Competency by any one of the following options:

Domestic Students:

  • Grade 10 English
  • Successful completion of English Language Proficiency Assessment Test conducted by the College

International Students:

  • IELTS: 5.5 or
  • TOEFL (paper): 550 or
  • TOEFL (CBT): 210 or
  • TOEFL (IBT): 79 or
  • Canadian Language Benchmark Test (CLB): 6
  • PTE Academic: 50 or
  • Cambridge: CAE or
  • Proof of any other English Language Assessment Test with an Equivalent Score
  • Has earned a Grade 12 graduation diploma from in a system in which English is the official language, or
  • Successfully completed a pre-Intermediate certificate from a Language Canada accredited school or
  • Successful completion of a three-credit academic English Course OR Equivalent from a Canadian accredited post-secondary institution with a minimum grade of C
  • Successfully complete the College’s English language proficiency assessment, or
  • Successful completion of the 24-week ESL program at the College

This program has been approved by the registrar of the Private Training Institutions Branch (PTIB) of the Ministry of Advanced Education, Skills and Training.

Transfer of Credits

Students completing the diploma in hospitality Management program at western community college who achieve the required academic standing and meet the required criteria will be eligible for admission to Vancouver community college with full block Transfer in the bachelor of hospitality degree* .

Students will also be eligible for admission to Fairleigh Dickinson University with full block transfer in Bachelor of Arts in Individualized Studies

VCC Transfer Information

Upon completion of Hospitality Management Diploma at Western Community College’s (WCC), you may apply to VCC’s Hospitality Management Diploma to complete the Bridge Term courses pending (total of 8), which may be delivered in 1-2 terms (depending on seat availability) – as per VCC-WCC articulated agreement. Program seats are not guaranteed.

1. Apply to VCC’s HOSP Diploma (Bridge term(s))

Admissions Requirements:

– Academic IELTS 6.0 (5.5 each band)
– Math 11 (Foundations 11 with a C+ or higher, or Pre-Calculus 11 with a C or higher)
– High School Graduation

2. Study at VCC’s HOSP Diploma courses (total of 8, listed previously)

3. Apply to VCC’s HOSD Degree (2-years length, one intake a year, every Fall term)

– VCC HOSP courses with GPA 3.0 (B)
– Western Community College final transcript with GPA 3.0 (B)
