Network Engineer

Program Overview

The Network Engineer program prepares individuals to plan, manage and secure the network infrastructure of an enterprise, on the premises, and on the cloud. The program includes knowledge and skill development in business communications and leadership, as well as the essential technical knowledge. The technology focus of this program is network administration, with an emphasis on Windows environments, hardware tools, networking tools and security of the network infrastructure.

The program fulfills the need for trained intermediate level cloud/network administrators and security professionals. With major trends in the IT industry moving to virtualization and cloud services, students in this program will learn essential skills to implement virtualization and securely integrate cloud services in existing IT infrastructures. Program graduates will be well equipped to compete for entry and intermediate level jobs in network administration and security.

Becoming an Information Technology Network Engineer is as easy as applying online to Western Community College. Earn up to $82,000 per year. The program prepares student to write industry certification exams, such as Linux+, Network+, Security+, CCNA and Cloud+. Flexible online learning options available.

Program Admission Requirements

Grade 12 or Mature Student Status (19 years of age or more). Students will need to submit a proof of English Language Competency by any one of the following options:

Domestic Students:
– Grade 10 English
– English Language Proficiency Assessment Test conducted by the College (Score of 60% or more)

International Students:
– IELTS 5.5 Bands or More
– CLB Score of 6 or more
– PTE Academic 50 or more
– TOEFL IBT 46 or more
– Duolingo 85 or more
– completion of a 3 credit course in English/Communication from a recognized Post Secondary Canadian Institution or from a country where English is the first language
– English Language Proficiency Assessment Test conducted by the College(Score of 60% or more)

1720 hours, 86 weeks full-time, 108 weeks part-time

Learning Objectives

  • Establish, monitor, and maintain Emails on a Microsoft cloud
  • Design, plan, and implement secure Virtual networks
  • Troubleshoot computer networks and efficiently resolve the issues
  • Demonstrate professionalism in communication and project management
  • Formulate a network design, given a set of network objectives; and
  • Demonstrate professionalism in the supervision of the work of other network and security staff
